The company was established on November 1, 1949, as Sanyo Oil & Fat Industrial Co., Ltd. It later changed its name to the current Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd. in June 1963.

Our predecessor company was Sanyo Oil & Fat Co., Ltd., founded in March 1943 with investment from Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Toyo Rayon Co., Ltd. (now Toray Industries, Inc.). The name “Sanyo” was derived by combining “San” (三) from Mitsui and “Yo” (洋) from Toyo Rayon. The company subsequently inherited this name and was launched as Sanyo Oil & Fat Industrial Co., Ltd.
In May 1968, the company was listed on the Second Section of the Osaka Securities Exchange and the Kyoto Securities Exchange, followed by a listing on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in October 1973.
In September 1978, the company was transferred to the First Section of both the Tokyo and Osaka stock exchanges, and in April 2022 it transitioned to the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Please note that the Kyoto Securities Exchange was abolished at the end of February 2001, and the Osaka Securities Exchange was integrated into the Tokyo Stock Exchange in July 2013.
Since our founding as a surfactant manufacturer, we have been an R&D-driven company that develops a wide range of products using interface control technologies. Today, we manufacture and sell approximately 3,000 products.

We consider enhancing returns to shareholders to be an important management priority, while strengthening our corporate foundation for the future through improved group earnings power. We aim for a consolidated dividend payout ratio of 30% or higher, and seek to increase dividend levels over the medium to long term.
