Excipients maintain pharmaceutical stability and safety and can have various effects according to their intended purposes, which include improving penetration or ease of application (humectants, moisture-permeable agents, plasticizers), enhancing solubility (compatibilizer), and facilitating molding or retention (thickeners). Enteric coating agents are one of the major product groups of pharmaceutical excipients.
